ISOC Somalia Chapter Launches DDCN Train-the-Trainers Program
The Internet Society (ISOC) Somalia Chapter has officially launched a Train-the-Trainers program under the course “Fundamentals of Designing and Deploying Computer Networks (DDCN)”, marking an important step in strengthening technical capacity across Somalia.
The program brings together 43 technical tutors from different regions, who are being trained to later deliver networking courses within their own communities. This approach aims to scale knowledge, expand reach, and build sustainable local expertise in computer networking and Internet technologies.
The course is facilitated by Mohamed Bile, Technical Officer of the ISOC Somalia Chapter, and runs for six weeks, from January to February.
The DDCN course covers the fundamentals of computer networking, including:
Core networking concepts
Ethernet and Wi-Fi technologies
Planning, designing, and deploying simple Local Area Networks (LANs)
Connecting LANs to the Internet using Mobile Internet, ADSL, and Fiber
Common network maintenance challenges and troubleshooting techniques
The course combines theoretical learning with practical knowledge, enabling participants to apply concepts in real-world environments.
The primary objective of the course is to train technicians who can plan, design, deploy, and maintain small wired or wireless LANs for residential and small business environments, including connecting these networks to Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Participants follow the course through the ISOC Learning platform, where they complete weekly self-paced modules. To complement the online content, the program includes six live interactive sessions conducted on Zoom, held every Thursday at 8:00 PM East Africa Time.
These live sessions provide an opportunity to review the week’s modules, discuss practical scenarios, and address questions from learners.
By focusing on training tutors rather than individual learners alone, the ISOC Somalia Chapter aims to extend the impact of the program beyond a single cohort. Once trained, the tutors will support additional trainings in their respective cities, contributing to nationwide capacity building in networking and Internet infrastructure.
This initiative reflects the ISOC Somalia Chapter’s continued commitment to community-driven capacity building, technical skills development, and strengthening the Internet ecosystem across the country.
